The Compass Sport Cup Final 2023, organised by Bristol Orienteering Klub, took place three weeks later than usual, giving Britain’s weather the chance to make things more ‘interesting’ than usual. North Gloucestershire Orienteering Club hosted the warm-up event for the Compass Sport Cup final at Highmeadow in the Forest of Dean this year. Andy Stott volunteered as the planner/organiser for a NGOC league event at Highmeadow when the fixtures list was released at the end of last year and in March and gives his account here on planning the event.

The Junior Home Internationals take place every year in early October. The top 12 male and 12 females in each of the age groups M/W14, M/W16 and M/W18’s from all the home nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland compete in a two day orienteering event with an Individual Day and a Relay Day. Ian Gamlen (Harlequins Orienteering Club) was the 2023 Event Co-ordinator, and here he gives his overview of the event.

At the beginning of September Jason Falconer (Wessex Orienteering Club) and Find Your Way Officer, Caroline Barcham attended the Gilwell Reunion Scout Weekend at Gilwell Park. The Reunion is the largest Scout Leader gathering in the UK and is a weekend for Scout Leaders to connect, upskill and gain information about events and activities which will improve their offer to the groups they lead.

Brunel University were the hosts yesterday for the final British Championship of 2023! London Orienteering Klubb put on a fantastic and well-planned event once more with 150 teams tackling the grounds of the somewhat intricate university grounds. In the Elite category South Yorkshire Orienteers (SYO) came out on top with a superb result ahead of Bristol Orienteering Klub (BOK) and multiple-time winners Forth Valley Orienteers (FVO). SYO also took 1st place in Junior (-16) category pipping the Dorset Junior team who came in second and the Junior (-12) category coming in ahead of West Anglian Orienteering Club (WAOC) in second and South Downs Orienteering Club (SO) in third.
