Orienteers are encouraged to cycle, use public transport, or lift share where possible: Large car parks are available at: ● Long Ashton Park & Ride - parking at the site is free. ● Ashton Court Mansion Car Park - pay and display, gates locked after 21:15. ● Church Lodge Car Park - pay and display, gates locked after 21:15. Assembly is in Ashton Park School, signposted from the school main entrance, all orienteers are requested to use the main entrance when arriving. We are very grateful to Ashton Park School for the use of the school grounds and facilities, special mention should go to Neil Moon from the PE department for his help in making all of this possible. |

| Description: | Part of BOK's Urban Series, held most Wednesday evenings from late April to early July. Short, Medium and Long courses available. Best 6 results on each course score for series prizes, with separate male and female competitions. |

Courses
| Course description: | Short, Medium and Long courses offered. Juniors (under 16) can only compete on the Short/Junior Sprint course. The Short/Junior Sprint course is entirely contained within the grounds of the School and does not require any interaction with any busy roads. This course is suitable for adult beginners orienteering either as individuals or as part of a group. All courses will start and finish in the School grounds. The Medium and Long courses leave the school and visit the harbourside area before returning. The Short/Junior Sprint, as the name suggests, is suitable for Juniors, and families, with little or no prior experience of orienteering but a willingness to come along and have a go at the sport. A sense of direction is advisable or failing that, an ability to use a compass. Terrain: Urban footpaths, residential streets, school playing fields and other grass/unpaved areas. Road shoes with good grips (but not spikes or dobs), running shorts and vests are generally suitable. The Medium and Long courses include crossings of busy roads at marked pedestrian crossing points, these roads must not be crossed except at marked crossing points. Maps will be provided in the start box showing the uncrossable roads, all participants must heed these instructions and not cross these roads under any circumstances unless at an allowed crossing point. Two maps are used: ● Harbourside Map: 1:4000, 2.5m contours, of the harbourside area, drawn by Chris Johnson, updated 2025. ● School Map: 1:2000, of Ashton Park School, drawn by David Faulkner in 2025. Where a course uses both maps, the map will be double-sided. All maps are A3 with courses overprinted. All participants on Medium and Long must familiarise themselves with the Mappers Notes, copies of which will also be available in the start box. If in doubt, ask at assembly. |
