British Orienteering

A game of 2 halves

28 June 2018

The final race of the 2017 UK Urban League was scheduled for last December at Castle Vale, Birmingham, but heavy snow and an amber weather warning forced Harlequins Orienteering Club to postpone. They chose June, combining with the Birmingham University sprints to create an attractive weekend.

Ian Gamlen (City of Birmingham Orienteering Club) – Day 2 Joint Organiser, says:

"Harlequins Orienteering Club organised the postponed 2017 UK Urban League (UKUL) Final at Castle Vale Birmingham and Birmingham University 2 part Sprint Event on 16-17 June.

Around 150 competitors took part each day. Castle Vale is a regenerated post WW 2 housing estate built on a former airfield. It is very flat with a complex road and path network.

Birmingham University 2 part sprint took place in The Vale which includes part of the University accommodation, 10 minutes walk from the Main Campus where the event centre and 2nd part of the race took place. This is mainly flat with lots of buildings with paths, roads and lawns between them."
