New Child O-Safe Policy Announced

25 March 2021

British Orienteering is pleased to announce a new O-Safe Child Safeguarding Policy.

The new safeguarding policy replaces the previous O-Safe document with immediate effect and builds on the positive changes being made within this area.

Safeguarding is a vital process, and the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults remains a high priority for British Orienteering. Together with clubs and coaches, we will continue to drive the importance of Safeguarding, with recent initiatives including the requirement of all licensed coaches to undertake a safeguarding course, alongside a proposal at the forthcoming AGM for clubs to have a designated welfare officer, demonstrating our commitment for positive action.

British Orienteering would like to take this opportunity to thank law firm Bird & Bird, alongside the Case Management Group all for their hard work is assembling this policy.

There will also be the accompanying Safeguarding Adults at Risk Policy which is in its final stages of review and a further announcement on this area will be made in due course.

The new Child Safeguarding Policy can be found here.

Further guidance on Safeguarding and additional resources can be found on the British Orienteering website under Safeguarding and Safety.
