21 April 2021

British Orienteering today is proud to announce the Club of the Year 2020.

Club of the Year is awarded to clubs who play an important part of their local community, who provide high quality experiences and activities, who develop participants, coaches and volunteers and innovate in development.

This year’s winner is:  Edinburgh University Orienteering Club (EUOC).

Edinburgh University Orienteering Club (EUOC) win Club of the Year

The club comments:
“Edinburgh University Orienteering Club are absolutely honoured to be receiving both British Orienteering University Club of the Year, and Club of the Year Awards! This year has posed many challenges for us as a club but we’ve done our best to think outside the box and provide activities for our membership. From our Maprun night orienteering league to our huge Munro-climbing fundraiser for Scottish Mountain Rescue, our membership have been keeping active, engaged and motivated. In order to raise awareness of Mental Health and Wellbeing, we’ve taken the time not spent orienteering to open up conversations on topics such as managing injury blues, RED-S and balancing the stresses of the student-athlete life. We’ve begun to question what we as a club can do to be more inclusive and how we can address the inequalities currently built into our sport. We’ve also had lots of fun! As an incredibly sociable club we’ve worked hard to adapt our usual antics in line with government restrictions. Some highlights included our Zoom Great EUOC Bake Off socials and our EUOC Open tennis tournament. We would like to thank our amazing 2020/21 committee for really going above and beyond this year, and our membership for engaging in events and making all our hard-work worth it. We are grateful to British Orienteering for recognising our efforts and we cannot wait to get back out in the forest soon!”

Congratulations to all members of Edinburgh University Orienteering Club (EUOC) who pick up a double win this year - winning Club of the Year today and University Club of the Year (announced on Saturday 24 April)!

This is the last award to be announced.  Thank you to all who submitted nominations for British Orienteering Awards this year.

British Orienteering would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the award winners for their outstanding contribution to the sport of orienteering.  Across the country, there is a tremendous amount of hard work and effort done by clubs and volunteers to make orienteering happen. British Orienteering certainly appreciates and recognises all of this commitment, time and effort that goes into our sport from all our volunteers.

THANK YOU!
