As you may recall we conducted a Coaching review last year which resulted in a series of recommendations that have been discussed and considered by the Coaching Advisory Group.

We have been working hard to create a new Coaching Qualification to replace the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering

The Orienteering Coach Qualification

• A clear title that describes and gives clarity to the role and purpose of the qualification.

Purpose of the Orienteering Coach Award

• To be able to coach the full range of techniques and skills in orienteering, delivering a series of high quality linked coaching sessions in a safe and enjoyable way.

Key Points

• Be at least 17 years of age to start the training and 18 years of age prior to certification.
• Be able to perform the skills and techniques of TD 5  of the British Orienteering Step System.
• Be a current member of British Orienteering.
• Complete some short pre-training course tasks.
• Complete the qualification within 1 year of registration
• 6 Bite sized, 20min, E-learning modules will provide a standardised and consistent approach accessing subject matter.
• 3 Webinar sessions of approximately 90 minutes to embed learning , have Professional discussions and provide motivation and support to trainee coaches.
• Whilst much of the theory will be covered by online e-learning and discussion webinars there will be in person sessions covering practical coaching, evaluating and giving/receiving feedback and preparing for the linked coaching sessions.
• Training is followed by delivering 4 linked and progressive sessions (any level) plus a physical training session. (these sessions are mentored)
• Final assessment is face to face session delivery at TD4/5 to a live or peer group.
• The fee will be £285 per learner as an initial offer until 31st Dec 2024 and hereafter £310 per learner, all costs/fees will be reviewed annually.
