British Orienteering

Your chance to have your say on Elite Orienteering in Britain

12 August 2024

Following the appointment of Ruth Beale as Chair of the Performance Pathway Steering Group (PPSG), the recruitment of Pippa Archer as the new Performance Manager, and the development of new terms of reference, the composition of this group is being refreshed to ensure it aligns with the aims and needs of the programme.

We have two voluntary positions available that we are seeking to fill and would love your support. If you are passionate about Performance Orienteering in Great Britain and would like to support our junior and senior athletes to compete on the world stage, then please get in touch.

This important group provides governance to the Performance programme at British Orienteering and will work closely with athletes, coaches and staff to ensure the programme is able to enjoy continued success. The PPSG has delegated powers from the Board to provide oversight of the Performance Pathway, programme philosophies, long term plans, annual targets & objectives, approve selection policies and to provide check and challenge to the programme and staff on planning, delivery, budgets, resources, and critical issues. The PPSG report to the board of British Orienteering.

The positions that we are recruiting for are as follows;

Talent squad/Level 3 parent; we are looking for a parent of a current Talent Squad athlete to represent views of parents and young people.

Independent performance expert(s); we are looking for one or two members who are not involved in the programme in another way (i.e. a current athlete, parent or a programme coach) who have experience and knowledge that would be of benefit to the group, either in elite orienteering or in an elite programme of another sport. You could be an ex-athlete, coach or manager or have an interest and experience in elite sport in another way.

Current members of the group:

  • Chair; Ruth Beale
  • A Director or British Orienteering; Duncan Birtwistle
  • A member of British Orienteering staff and level 5 delegate; Pippa Archer
  • Level 4 programme delegate; Tom Bray
  • Level 3 programme delegate; Peter Tryner
