British Orienteering work with team behind the OOM software to develop Open Orienteering Map

1 September 2024

British Orienteering and the team behind the OOM software have been working together to develop the ever-popular mapping and course creation software, Open Orienteering Map.

Members and Clubs throughout the country regularly use the software as part of their events and training and through funding from the Find Your Way Project there have been some recent developments to the site. Users can now easily switch between the event choice of ‘Linear’ and ‘Score’ events which now appears on the home screen in addition to a ‘Preview’ button being added which allows the user to see how the map will appear at print without having to download it.

The simplicity of use has meant that OOM has become a main feature in the training giving to local community leaders, teachers and others as part of wider training element in the Find Your Way Project in helping them learn how to create their own Maprun courses within their communities.

The team behind OOM, David Dixon (HH), Stephen Borrill (WAOC) and original creator, Oliver O’Brien (SLOW) work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide the asset for the sport which is a vital co in the system for many orienteering activities. We’re thrilled to have been able to support OOM and thank the team in their work developing the new features, and look forward to continuing to support them with more new features in the pipeline.
