Commenting on his appointment, Peter Brooke said:
"I am thrilled and honoured to take on the role of CEO at British Orienteering. I look forward to building on the significant achievements of Peter Hart and continuing to develop the sport at all levels. Sport has always been a passion of mine, and I have seen first-hand its ability to create opportunities and change lives. Since joining the orienteering community, my family and I have fully embraced all it has to offer. We are active members of SELOC, regularly taking part in events ranging from local club competitions to major championships like The JK and WOC 2024. I am excited to lead British Orienteering and our team in increasing participation and enjoyment of the sport."
Peter brings a wealth of experience in both competing in and working within sports. Since joining British Orienteering in 2017 as a Development Officer, he has taken on key roles in development, safeguarding, and governance. He is also an active member of South East Lancashire Orienteering Club. Prior to his involvement in orienteering, Peter spent over a decade at the Rugby Football League, supporting the growth of match officials, clubs, and players nationwide.
In addition to his professional expertise, Peter has an extensive background in officiating. Having played Rugby League as a child, he transitioned to refereeing, spending seven years as a first-team referee before focusing on Touch Judging. He continues to officiate in Super League and the Championship, with career highlights including officiating at the Men’s World Cup semi-finals and refereeing the Women’s World Cup final in 2013.
British Orienteering would like to express sincere gratitude to outgoing CEO Peter Hart for his leadership, dedication, and hard work over the past six years. Since taking on the role in 2018, Peter has successfully guided the sport through significant challenges, including the pandemic, and has played a pivotal role in shaping British Orienteering’s strategic vision and governance.
