The 2017 British Long Championships were hosted by the North West Orienteering Association on the fells and woodland around High Dam in the Lake District.

The area has had little in the month leading up to the event providing prisitne underfoot running conditions, whilst the day itself was cool with a light breeze.

In the Womens elite, Tessa Strain (EUOC) took the win in a time of 1:19:37 on the 9km course, three and a half minutes in front of Megan Carter-Davies (MWOC). Anastasia Trubkina (FVO) was a further five minutes back.

In  the Mens Elite Graham Gristwood (FVO) took his 4^th Senior title in a row in a time of 1:38:50 on a 15km course. He was clear of Alasdair McLeod (CLYDE) by nearly five minutes and ahead of Peter Bray (MDOC) in third by over ten minutes – an outstanding run. A full list of results can be found here.

The next day the 2017 British Relay Championships were held in the neighbouring area of Summer House Knott on a gloriously sunny day.

The Womens race was won by an Edinburgh University team consisitng of Fay Walsh, Sarah Jones and Tessa Strain. They were two minutes clear of a Southern Navigators team consisting of Sarah Rollins, Ruth Holmes and Alice Leake with Grace Molloy, Lizzie Stansfield and Fanni Gyurko from FVO a further minute behind.
