Col Charles has had an active role across skiing, rugby, athletics and of course, orienteering throughout his regular and reserve service both in terms of personal performance and officiating.
The awards ceremony took place at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst last night (Thursday 21 November 2019), to celebrate with the winners and other sportsmen and women from across the British Army.
The Army Orienteering Association says: "We are immensely proud of Charles’ huge contribution to Army orienteering, his selfless dedication to excellence and insurmountable willingness to assist novices in any sport."
British Orienteering Chief Executive Peter Hart, says:
"I have known Charles since my early days in the Army back in 1980, what I did not realise until last night was not only his huge contribution to army and civilian orienteering but how passionate and how much he contributes to other sports such as athletics, Nordic skiing and rugby.
It is fantastic that his enthusiasm, love and contribution to sport has been recognised in this way and he thoroughly deserves the Lifetime Achievement Award."
