Report by Pat Graham on behalf of Mar Orienteering Club.
Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March 2020 in stunning Scotland! Entries via Fabian4.
Mar Orienteering Club is looking forward to hosting the first event of the 2020 UK Elite Orienteering League in Aberdeenshire.
Saturday 7 March will stage an Urban event which is also part of the Scottish Orienteering Urban League, on the brand-new area of Johnshaven, mapped by Chris Smithard. Johnshaven is a charming working fishing village between Stonehaven and Montrose.
The terrain consists of intricate streets and passageways and the grounds and gardens of Lathallan School, formerly Brotherton Castle.
On Sunday 8 March there is a classic orienteering event being held at Birsemore, Aboyne which is also part of the UK Elite Orienteering League. Birsemore Hill rises to 333 metres and includes some intricate areas on the steep northern slopes with a wealth of contour and rock detail including cliffs and crags. The majority of the area is covered with runnable plantation and is therefore fairly sheltered.
Planner Drew Tivendale has promised a family-friendly starting point but has warned more experienced orienteers to expect a demanding navigational, and physical challenge!
Why not make a weekend of it in a beautiful part of the Scottish countryside?
