Back to Orienteering Guidance Update

2 September 2020

Following the publication of the Back to Orienteering Guidance on 13 July 2020 for the resumption of events in England from 1 August 2020, British Orienteering has conducted its first review to see if any significant changes or updates can be made. Following the review, at this time, the Board have decided that there will be no changes to the guidance for England.

It has been exciting to see events featuring once again on the calendar and British Orienteering would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers across the country for their hard work in the recommencement of events.

For there to be any changes to the guidance, British Orienteering has set out five factors which will influence the final decision-making process and members feedback will continue to play a vital role in this area.

The factors to be considered are:

  • Changes to the government guidance,
  • The safety both of those involved in the sport and of the general public,
  • The likely perception of orienteering events by landowners, local authorities, and the general public,
  • Feedback from event organisers,
  • Feedback from event participants.

The next review (subject to any significant government announcement) will take place during early September.

Any feedback that members wish to input into the next review can be sent  to: info@britishorienteering.org.uk
