Essex Stragglers Welcome Back Orienteers with Series of Urban Events

1 September 2020

Report and photos from the Chelmer Village mid-week orienteering event organised by Kevin Machin member of Essex Stragglers.

Essex Stragglers (SOS) have welcomed back orienteers with a series of six fortnightly mid-week urban orienteering events.

The event this week was their second and was held at Chelmer Village through a complex labyrinth of winding roads and footpaths posing quite a challenge with plenty of route choice, and attracted 35 participants on a wet and blustery evening. Controls were all fire hydrants thereby avoiding the need to set out and collect controls.  For added and ongoing interest the best four results in the series count towards league positions adjusted on an age/gender handicap.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the event and glad to get back to running once again, even those of us who finished in the dark.
