British Orienteering are proudly supporting the #RediscoverSummer campaign, encouraging people to safely rediscover the range of sporting activities and events the summer has to offer.
The past year has been difficult for all of us, which is why this campaign is encouraging families to safely make the most of their summer.
British Orienteering are joining up with #RediscoverSummer to highlight some of the amazing things to do during the school holidays, helping family and friends enjoy quality time together. The campaign is focusing on a different theme each week covering reading, sport, community, nature, heritage and creativity over six weeks this summer.
Celebrating the Sport of Orienteering this summer
Orienteering is an outdoor sport that involves participants following a course marked on a map and finding their way to a series of checkpoints. It is up to participants to decide which way to go, which is all part of the fun and sets it apart from just a walk or run.
British Orienteering and orienteering clubs around the UK are working together to promote Permanent Orienteering Courses as a way of discovering the outdoors whilst in a safe way. Some clubs have also developed virtually, so you can simply complete courses with your GPS smartphone or watch.
Permanent and Virtual Orienteering Courses are great for…
Before you start downloading a map - check out this video supported by The Orienteering Foundation, a charity supporting orienteering in the UK, explaining how you can get started on a Permanent Orienteering Course.
The great thing about Permanent and Virtual (GPS) Orienteering Courses is they can be completed at any time that fits in with you, they can be done at your own pace, you can either walk, jog or run and they are suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
