Report by Charles Daniel (BOK), Organiser of the JK Relay 2022 on 18 April.
The next JK Relay will be held on Monday 18 April 2022 at the Caerwent Training Area.
Without the slightest bias, this will be the top day!
Now a military training area, this ex-ordnance store area, which is being returned to nature comprises runnable woodlands, open areas, thickets, old buildings, roads, railways, blast banks, and ditches. Due to its wide variety of terrain, it provides the perfect opportunity for fast racing and technical challenge.
Easily accessible from the M4 motorway just 6 miles away, the main car parking and assembly areas are in a large field just 10 mins walk from the competition area. Along with the regular facilities at Assembly such as first aid, food and clothing retailers and toilets, etc, we will also have a maze and string course. The field is big enough to facilitate all this and social distancing – your safety has been at the centre of preparations by BOK and BAOC.
We have all missed Relays races in recent years – Relay races provides one of the few opportunities where orienteers can join fellow club members as true teammates. Relays races are not just about trying to win, it’s about participation and it’s a great feeling when joint efforts produce satisfying results.
With courses for all ages and abilities, make sure you don’t miss this one and register today.
