Thank you to all those who completed the recent questionnaire regarding the 2023 British Orienteering Sprint and Middle Championship events planned to take place in Northern Ireland this coming May.
Your contribution was very helpful and extremenly encouraging.
Following the announcement of the coronation of King Charles III, planned for Saturday 6 May, the pupose of the survey was to assertain what impact this would have on participation at the British Champs and any participant preference in the event timetable.
Presently a bank holiday has not been announced and it seems to be the intention that the coronation will be a smaller affair compared to the late Queen's ceremony.
As a result of this consultation, Northern Ireland Orienteering Association intend to hold the event as it was previously planned with the Sprint on the Saturday and the Middle Distance event on the Sunday. There may be a longer gap between the Sprint qualifying and final races to allow participants to watch the King's coronation on a big screen.
The British Championships will be a fitting finale to the 10-day Emerald Isle Festival of Orienteering which kicks off with four Irish Championship races in County Wicklow, near Dublin - details of the IOC 2023 can be found here.
There will be an Emerald Isle Festival webpage coming soon which will include details of the events over all 10 days. Click here for some provisional info on the festival.
