British Orienteering is delighted to announce that the new Performance, Development and Talent (North, South & Scotland) Squads have been selected for 2022-23. These Squads develop the very best orienteers in the United Kingdom to represent our Great Britain Team in international competitions.
After the medal success at the World Orienteering Championships 2022 (1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze) for Great Britain, this is an exciting time for the GBR squads, especially as they begin their training cycle for a home World Championships in Edinburgh in 2024.
The athletes selected for the squads are named here.
The GBR Performance programme is described here.
Performance Pathway Director, Bernie Dietzig said about the new squads:
I would like to congratulate all the athletes selected to the squads. A comprehensive program has been put in place to develop, support and most importantly stimulate a performance environment, within which our athletes can thrive.
We are very lucky to have a number of dedicated and hugely experienced coaches and managers on board who support and drive the programmes. I'd like to use this opportunity to thank those individuals who invest a significant amount of time to support the program - especially the volunteers.
With the 2023 season upon us, I am confident that the programme activities which are offered through the various levels will help the individual athletes to prepare and compete successfully at major competitions.
