British Orienteering, British Schools Orienteering Association and The Outdoor Classroom collaborated to run The Big League in May and June.
The aim was to encourage schools to increase pupils' activity levels throughout the period by participating in virtual orienteering courses set within the curriculum. The Outdoor Classroom opened this up free to any school who wished to participate, and it sees teachers trained in creating their own courses around the school grounds.
In just six weeks, there were some fantastic results!
?️ 985 courses created
? 385 hours of activity
? 1328 unique pupils taking part (2544 total)
? 1287km distance covered.
Last week The Outdoor Classroom presented the winning school, Springwell Juniors, with their signed GB jersey and a special video message from GB World Champion Megan Carter-Davies in an assembly of over 800 children, staff and governors. The presentation was timed to coincide with Megan's WOC Middle Qualification run, so they could watch her live in action too.
What a fantastic initiative to spread the word about our sport and get more young people active through orienteering!
