13 athletes have travelled to the beautiful forests of Wallonia, Virton, Belgium to compete in Junior European Cup 2023, with over 150 competitors representing 13 countries.
The competition will start on Saturday with the Middle Distance event in the afternoon, followed by the Long on Sunday and concludes with the Relay event on Monday morning.
The area covers new terrain for the orientees, with no ‘old maps’ available. It will vary between open, leafy but hilly forest with more densely vegetated summits.
The squad representing Great Britain have all mostly had International Competition experience this summer, either through the Junior World Orienteering Championships or the European Youth Orienteering Championships. Alex Wetherill will make his debut performance with the GB team at the event, as will Miia Roller who is returning from illness.
We wish all the team the best of luck and look forward to seeing how they get on in Belgium. For more information on the event, please visit the JEC 2023 website.
