Pippa Archer, Performance Managemer at British Orienteering said:

"The British Sprint Champs weekend was a fantastic opportunity for members of the GB squad to test their fitness ahead of the upcoming World Championships in Edinburgh.

For WOC24 pre-selected athletes Megan Carter-Davies and Grace Molloy, it was a chance to run hard in back-to-back races and see whether their decision making could keep up with their running speed. It could - reigning world champion Megan secured a clear victory with Grace snatching second spot just a few seconds ahead of Laura Robertson (NZL) and Charlotte Ward in the women's elite class. Further down the field, it was a chance for other GB team contenders to see how they performed under pressure ahead of the final WOC selection race, due to take place just one week later.

In the men's class, pre-selected athlete Ralph Street was absent, training hard back in his adopted home of Norway, so the field was wide open. On the day, Nathan Lawson got the better of Peter Molloy and Jonathan Crickmore, but all three can take confidence that they are racing well and will be strong contenders for the remaining spots in the GB team.

Having the opportunity to run high-quality races, under real pressure, so close to the World Championships is invaluable. The team behind the British Sprint Champs and the British Sprint Relay Champs did a fantastic job in putting on such great races and providing the opportunity for our very best athletes to put the finishing touches to their racing strategy ahead of WOC24 in just a few weeks' time."
