As detailed in the GBR team selection policy, athletes who would like to be considered for selection must complete an availability form to declare their interest in being selected to represent GBR at international competitions. Athletes are required to complete the availability form by race-specific deadlines; these deadlines are listed in the selection policy and advertised on the British Orienteering website.
The process for communicating selection decisions is laid out in section 3.1 of the appeals policy. This section has been updated to reflect the fact that only a specific group of people are eligible for selection. Specifically, selection decisions will be communicated in writing (usually via email) to all athletes who have declared themselves available for selection. This is a change from the previous process whereby selection decisions were announced on the British Orienteering website. The change has been made to enable us to communicate the selection decisions as quickly as possible to the relevant group of people.
Selection decisions will still be announced on the British Orienteering website - we will aim to publish announcements two working days after selection decisions have been communicated to all relevant athletes, so long as no appeals have been submitted. There may be a delay to announcing the team on the British Orienteering website if the appeals process is triggered.
This updated process for announcing selection decisions will be implemented when announcing the GBR team for WOC 2024. Three athletes have currently been pre-selected for WOC – Megan Carter-Davies, Grace Molloy and Ralph Street. Other places in the team will be decided following a sprint test race this Saturday, 29 June. The selection panel will meet the same day, and we hope to be able to announce the full team on the British Orienteering website in the middle of next week.
