The team of Rachel Brown, Peter Molloy, Eddie Narbett and Fiona Bunn have taken Gold in the Mixed Sprint Relay at the World University Orienteering Championship in Bankso, Bulgaria.
In the second day of events at the Championship, Team GB brought home the gold medal ahead of Switzerland and France in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Edging out Switzerland by 8 seconds, Fiona Bunn ensured Gold was on the table for the team after great work by Rachel, Peter and Eddie setting up the team on a very hot day in Bulgaria.
Fiona Bunn - 'Coming into the race we knew we could be in the mix, but there were so many strong teams so a medal felt like an outside chance. But the team all put in incredible runs, keeping their heads cool in the heat of the race and pushing for every second. I knew I was in the fight for the medals on the final leg, but I had no idea I was running in to take the win. I'm so happy for the whole team, and excited for the rest of the races.'
Congratulations to the team, the coaches and the support staff in achieving a fantastic result for the sport!
