AIRE are recruiting a Club Development Lead

15 April 2025

Airienteers are seeking a part-time, paid Club Development Lead. The CDL’s role will be to engage young adults and families to take up orienteering, promote our club and activities via social media and contact with local groups with the ultimate aim to increase our active membership.
Orienteering Image

Currently our membership is predominantly white, middle class which in the Leeds and Bradford area does not at all represent many of the local communities.  We would like the CDL to reach out to these communities to encourage them to have a go.

Job Description

The CDL will be expected to determine how the role can best be fulfilled in discussion with the club chair and AIRE’s development working group. We anticipate that the CDL focus on the following to increase participation.

  • Publicise our events to the local communities via local universities, community groups, scouts, running groups, minority ‘get active’ groups, sport centres etc. and via paid advertising on social media.
  • Develop and run activities, including our Saturday Introductory series to engage those new to orienteering.
  • Develop & promote resources to support those who are new to orienteering.

Person Specification

We need an enthusiast who can inspire and motivate others, especially young adults and families and those from diverse backgrounds. The CDL will:

  • have, or be willing to secure, a current DBS clearance.
  • be a reasonable orienteer.
  • be a good coordinator, communicator, and motivator, as shown by their previous experience.

Line Management

The CDL will be responsible to the current chair of AIRE, acting on behalf of the committee. On appointment, the CDL and the club development sub-committee will agree an action programme. The sub-committee and CDL will review progress and update the programme after three months then on a regular (initially bi-monthly) basis.

The CDL will be expected to work about 300 hours per year for the club. The hourly rate per hour will be in line with the National Living wage and will increase in line with that, travel at 25p per mile and expenses.  The distribution of hours and workload are flexible and will be determined by the CDL.

The CDL will be self-employed, submitting monthly invoices to the club Treasurer. The CDL will be responsible for her/his own tax affairs. This is a two-year appointment in the first instance, but we will review progress annually and may alter the hours/objectives of the appointment after the review. The appointment is subject to an initial three-month probationary period.
