Description: | This is a 1-hour night score event. 30 controls with a total of 600 points available.
Controls 101 – 110 are worth 10 points, controls 111 – 120 are worth 20 points and controls 121- 130 are worth 30 points but to make the most of the area the scoring will be based on an “Odds & Evens” system.
The standard scoring scheme still applies but you will need to choose to start with either an Odd or an Even number - and you visit those until such time as you choose to swap sets; so, for example, if you decide to start on Evens you should continue with them and then swap at some point to Odds. Or vice versa.
In practice, you don't have to swap; you could just be happy doing all of one set. However, you must follow these rules to establish which set you are starting on, and once you change sets, stick with that to make the highest score possible.
Once you have swapped you cannot swap back, you have to stick with the second set so
you can only score off Odds or Evens numbers once, you cannot keep switching back and forth as that would defeat the whole purpose of this scoring approach!
To aid this system, on the map, Odd numbers will be marked in purple and Even numbers in blue.
Hopefully this is clear but if any further explanation is required, please feel free to ask the Organiser.
1 point will be lost for each 6 seconds or part thereof over the hour. Bonuses at the same rate if you get all the controls under the hour. Some of the lower value controls are of orange standard and should be suitable for less experienced nighttime orienteers. |
